The Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program, an alliance-based initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and named in honor of former Congressman Louis Stokes, aims to broaden participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The central goal of LSAMP is to support institutions of higher education by increasing the number of baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to students in STEM fields.
Employing a comprehensive framework for student development and retention, the LSAMP program places particular emphasis on the transformation of undergraduate STEM education. This is achieved through the implementation of innovative, evidence-based recruitment and retention strategies, alongside the provision of relevant educational experiences designed to foster academic success and career progression in STEM disciplines.
